The Death of Beef Jerky

Writing this Article a thought has occurred to me hundreds maybe thousands of readers are about to make a decision based on what I write here. Maybe I am being a little to optimistic, unfortunately the question still remains with tastes changing as they are is beef jerky dying.

Beef Jerky will never die for those people addicted to it and believe it or not this is not a small group, but for those mere mortals that view jerky as a simple snack the competition is fierce for their dry meat dollar.

The real grit of this article is how beef compares to some of the other types of jerky and in particular camel jerky. Camel jerky is currently made in the northern territory of Australia from wild camels. It is one of the new jerky’s that is in fact giving the old beef a run for its money.

Camel jerky is much leaner meat and one it could be argued healthier with less fat and lower chemicals, and because of how it is grown more used to dry harsh enviroment, something that unfortunately makes it closer to jerky than beef.

Camel has a fantastic taste that is more flavorsome than beef and takes you on another taste tangent that if followed would certainly open your eyes to a new taste, something that will definitely grow on you.

Even though camels and cattle have huge differences the fact is this jerky is quiet close to beef after all they do eat much the same fodder.

If we take into account the growth of Camel jerky and it availability, the question is will it knock of the entrenched favorite as a snack for Jerky lovers.

Sodastream (aka Soda Club) Defending Market Position

In 2006, by claiming that Soda Club bottles were company property, not the customer’s (per standard customer contracts), Sodastream tried to stop a competing enterprise from refilling “their” bottles of carbon dioxide (CO2).

This effort failed in Germany, and now the same could happen in many other countries.

Still, consider that home-made sparkling water already costs a fraction of store-purchased carbonated beverages; but things could be a lot better.

Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court confirms immediate enforceability in the Soda-Club case

Soda-Club GmbH, Wiesbaden (“Soda-Club“) may not use its dominant position abusively. Soda-Club had prevented competing suppliers from refilling CO2 cartridges for water carbonating machines by claiming its ownership of the cartridges.

In February 2006 the Bundeskartellamt prohibited this conduct. Soda Club opposed the Bundeskartellamt’s immediately enforceable decision by applying to the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court for interim measures. In provisional proceedings the court has now confirmed the Bundeskartellamt’s decision in all material respects. Soda-Club is dominant in the market for refilling CO2 cartridges. Hindering competitors from refilling CO2 cartridges represents an abuse of this dominant position. By this conduct Soda-Club prevents consumers from taking advantage of alternative refilling possibilities. Only the obligation to point out on labels on the company’s own cartridges that it is admissible to have them refilled by competitors was seen by the Higher Regional Court as a disproportionate measure.

Although Soda-Club can still appeal against the Higher Regional Court’s decision to the Federal Supreme Court, the Higher Regional Court’s decision implies that the numerous small and medium-sized bottling plants can now start to compete with Soda-Club and refill all cartridges circulating in the market.
